The norm in our society is to go to the doctor and get a prescription for medication, listen to your doctor, and then take your medications as prescribed. Yet people are depending upon prescription medications that often only keep them sick over the long-term. Big Pharma has been dominating and making people sick for far too long.
Here are some groups that are finally stepping up to fight.
Pharmaceutical Reps and the Sunshine Act
Pharmaceutical Reps originally would work to educate medical doctors and pharmacists about their new drug coming on the market as well as provide samples. Their roles evolved from educators of new drugs to basically offering legal bribes of bringing in gifts, providing lunches and even lavish vacations for doctors. Pharmaceutical reps could even get paid on the number of prescriptions a medical doctor prescribes for their drug.
In 2013 the Sunshine Act was created which aimed to decrease the potential for conflict of interest by bringing transparency to financial relationships between drug reps and medical doctors. As of July 2013, drug, device, biological product, and medical supply manufacturers were required to report on compensation, gifts, and other “transfers of value” paid to physicians.[i]
American Medical Association against Direct-to-Consumer Advertising.
Prior to 1990, the drug companies were not allowed to advertise pharmaceutical drugs to the population. In the 1990s, they were able to get the law changed which allowed radio, television, magazines, and the internet to become saturated with advertising for the newest and most exciting drug to hit the market. Emotional commercials showcased images of happy and healthy people, while all the terrible and detrimental side-effects are listed quickly at the end as our attention is focused on the positive visual images on the screen.
The massive amounts of commercials have immensely increased their sales. Pharmaceutical companies spent $3 billion dollars in 2003 and prescriptions for the 50 most heavily advertised drugs rose six times faster than prescriptions for all other drugs.[ii]
Right now only the United States and New Zealand allow direct-to-consumer advertising.
Last year the American Medical Association (AMA) took a stand against these advertisements, and the negative effect as well as the increase costs of drug prices. It is great to see the medical community separating themselves from the pharmaceutical companies.[iii]
Nurses Against Vaccines
Nurses have been forced to get the flu vaccine, even though flu vaccines aren’t proven to work and have toxins in them such as aluminum, foreign proteins from genetically modified ingredients, and others. If nurses refuse, then they have to wear a mask all day at work.
Now 22,000 nurses who are a part of Nurses Against Mandatory Vaccines (NAMV) are taking a stand and refusing to vaccinate as they believe that nurses and all people have the right to choose or refuse medical treatment. This is great for a group of nurses to stand up and fight back – hopefully other healthcare practitioners will follow their lead.[iv]
